Orlando – Virginia Woolf by Virginia Woolf

"He was a woman; he was a man; he was a woman. What does it matter?"

Orlando begins as a young nobleman in Elizabethan England, a favorite of the Queen. He lives for centuries, meeting writers and kings, until one day in Constantinople, he wakes up as a woman. She continues to live through the 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries, navigating the changing roles of the sexes while remaining the same person.

Virginia Woolf's dazzling 'biography' is a love letter to her friend Vita Sackville-West. It is a playful, feminist exploration of gender, history, and the fluidity of identity, written with wit and poetic beauty.
