Phineas Finn – Anthony Trollope by Anthony Trollope

"It is a great thing to be a Member of Parliament."

Phineas Finn, a handsome young Irishman, comes to London to seek his fortune in Parliament. He navigates the treacherous waters of Victorian politics, rising rapidly through his charm and luck. He must choose between three women who love him—the gentle Mary Flood Jones, the wealthy Violet Effingham, and the brilliant Madame Max Goesler—and decide whether to compromise his principles for power.

This Palliser novel is a fascinating study of political ambition. It offers an insider's view of the House of Commons and asks whether an honest man can survive in the game of politics.
