Uncle Vanya – Anton Chekhov by Anton Chekhov

"We shall rest! We shall hear the angels; we shall see the whole sky all in diamonds."

Vanya and his niece Sonya have spent their lives managing the country estate to support Sonya's father, a pompous professor. When the professor returns with his beautiful young wife Yelena, the household is thrown into chaos. Vanya realizes his life has been wasted, and the doctor Astrov falls for Yelena. The play ends with the departure of the disruptors and a return to the drudgery of work.

Chekhov's masterpiece is a study of wasted lives and endurance. It explores the quiet tragedy of ordinary people who realize they have missed their chance for happiness.
