Eugene Onegin, a bored St. Petersburg dandy, inherits a country estate. He befriends the poet Lensky and rejects the love of the thoughtful Tatyana Larina. Years later, after killing Lensky in a senseless duel and traveling aimlessly, he returns to find Tatyana married and transformed into a sophisticated society lady, realizing too late that he loves her.

Alexander Pushkin's novel in verse is the founding text of Russian literature. Written in a complex, sparkling sonnet form, it captures the essence of the Russian soul and society. It is a masterpiece of irony, romance, and tragedy that defined the 'superfluous man' archetype.
