The Dunwich Horror – H.P. Lovecraft

In the isolated village of Dunwich, the albino Wilbur Whateley is born to a deformed mother and an unknown father. He grows at an unnatural rate and seeks the forbidden 'Necronomicon' to summon the Old Ones. When an invisible monster begins to ravage the countryside, crushing farmhouses and cattle, a trio of professors from Miskatonic University must use ancient spells to banish the entity.

This story is a classic example of Lovecraft's mythos, featuring forbidden tomes, rural degeneration, and cosmic entities. It is one of the few Lovecraft stories where humanity actually triumphs, albeit temporarily, against the forces of darkness.
