Hedda Gabler – Henrik Ibsen

Hedda, the daughter of a General, is trapped in a boring marriage to the academic Tesman. Intelligent, ambitious, but stifled by society, she amuses herself by manipulating the lives of those around her, including her former lover Eilert Løvborg. Her desire for control and beauty leads to destruction and her own ultimate tragedy.

Hedda Gabler is one of the most challenging roles in theater. Ibsen creates a complex female anti-hero—cruel, neurotic, and fascinating—who rages against the limitations placed on her gender and spirit.
