The Game of Love and Chance – Marivaux

Silvia, a noblewoman, disguises herself as her maid to observe her suitor, Dorante. Unknown to her, Dorante has disguised himself as his servant for the same reason. As the two "servants" fall in love, they struggle with their class prejudices, believing they are loving beneath their station. The play explores the conflict between social rank and natural feeling.

Marivaux's comedy is a delicate and psychological study of love (marivaudage). It tests the idea that true nobility is found in the heart, not the title, within a playful, theatrical framework.
