"A sound mind in a sound body."
John Locke's letters on raising children emphasize physical health, virtuous habits, and the importance of play. He argues against corporal punishment and rote memorization.
It fundamentally changed how Europe viewed childhood, seeing the child's mind as a blank slate (*tabula rasa*) to be shaped with care.
