Published in 1600, William Gilbert's work is the first systematic study of electricity and magnetism. He debunked magical myths about compasses and proved that the Earth has magnetic poles.

He even coined the word "electricity" (from the Greek for amber). This book laid the foundation for the technologies that power our modern world. A classic of experimental physics.
