Demons – Fyodor Dostoevsky par Fyodor Dostoevsky

"I've been tempted by the devil, but I've never traded my soul."

In a provincial Russian town, a group of young radicals led by the charismatic and manipulative Pyotr Verkhovensky plots a violent revolution. They are inspired by the enigmatic figure of Stavrogin, a man of immense power but moral emptiness. The group's nihilism leads to a spiral of arson, murder, and suicide that consumes the town.

Dostoevsky's most political novel is a chilling prophecy of the totalitarianism that would engulf the 20th century. It is a psychological study of how ideas can possess people like demons, leading them to destroy themselves and others in the name of a utopia.
