Men and Women – Robert Browning par Robert Browning

"Ah, but a man's reach should exceed his grasp, Or what's a heaven for?"

This collection features fifty-one dramatic monologues, including classics like 'Fra Lippo Lippi' and 'Andrea del Sarto'. In each poem, a character (often an artist or historical figure) speaks to a silent listener, revealing their innermost thoughts, rationalizations, and flaws. Browning masterfully captures the psychology of the speaker through their distinctive voice.

Browning perfected the dramatic monologue. This collection is a gallery of fascinating psychological portraits, exploring themes of art, religion, and love with intellectual vigor and psychological depth.
