News from Nowhere – William Morris par William Morris

"Go back and be the happier for having seen us, for having added a little hope to your struggle."

The narrator falls asleep in Victorian London and wakes up in a future socialist utopia. Industrial capitalism has been swept away, replaced by a society of beauty, craftsmanship, and harmony with nature. There is no money, no government, and work is done for the sheer pleasure of creation.

Morris's novel is a response to the mechanical socialism of Bellamy. It presents a vision of an agrarian, aesthetic utopia that reflects Morris's Arts and Crafts ideals. It is a gentle, dreamlike argument for a life based on art and community.
