"Finished, it's finished, nearly finished, it must be nearly finished."
Hamm, blind and unable to stand, sits in a chair in a bare room, attended by Clov, who cannot sit. In trash cans nearby live Hamm's legless parents, Nagg and Nell. Outside, the world seems to have died. Trapped in this claustrophobic shelter, they play out the final moves of a game that has no winner, only an endless delay of the inevitable end.
Beckett's companion piece to 'Waiting for Godot' is a stark, apocalyptic vision of existence. It is a masterpiece of minimalism, exploring themes of dependency, decay, and the persistence of life in the face of nothingness.
